Tyramine Restricted

Low Monoamine (LMA) Diet

General Description

To provide a diet that limits foods that are major sources of tyramine and other monoamines. This diet also assures that a majority of the end products of neurotransmitter metabolism that are measured in urine, blood, and CSF are derived from endogenous metabolism and not from metabolism of monoamines of dietary origin. Thus, this diet should eliminate confounding results in routine metabolic measurements.

Indications for Use

The LMA diet is to be used specifically for patients who are in research studies requiring restrictions of dietary amines.

Nutritional Adequacy

In comparison to Recommended Dietary Allowances, this diet is nutritionally adequate with the same exceptions as for the regular diet.
